Joven Drake “JD” Mercado, 9, 2796 Golfball Circle, Concord, NC, went home to play in Heaven’s playground on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at Levine's Children's Hospital.

JD or Monkey as he was called by his mother was born October 15, 2004 in Fayetteville, NC to Gloria L. Mercado and Joven Mercado.  He was a very loving child who always smiled, loved to sing, dance, and attend A.L. Brown Wonders Athletic Games.  JD loved everyone and was pure magic to his family.  He made everyone smile when they came in contact with him.

Survivors include his mother, Gloria L. Mercado of Concord, his father, Joven Mercado who is in the military; grandmother, April Anderson of Concord;  aunt, Summer Leviner of Concord; aunt, Shellie Kinard of Shelby;  aunt and uncle, Charlotte Davis and husband, Waylon Barber of Kannapolis; uncle, Matt Peugh of Kannapolis; great-grandfather, Arthur “Buddy” Davis of Kannapolis and his role model cousin, Tyler Lee Davis of Kannapolis.     

JD will be loved and missed as his life on earth was way too short.  But rest assured his plan that was laid out for him ran its course and God needed the little Angel home.  Forever in our hearts and as you told your mom “My heart is your heart”.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, Fallston

Burial: Rose Hill Memorial Park
