Kitty Crawford Minnix

Kitty Crawford Minnix age 87 went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Kings Mountain Hospice Center. Born in Madison, Georgia on December 30, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Fred Aderholt and Vannah Bell Young Crawford. She spent her life after age nine in Shelby, where she attended Shelby schools. She was known for her artistic abilities and won many ribbons for her oil and watercolor paintings throughout her life. She was a former member of the Working Artist Guild of North Carolina. She had the ability to make art from almost any material, including sculpturing from clay. She also loved to study genealogy and spent many years with her husband, the late James Calvin Minnix, and with friends, traveling and researching the family trees of the Minnix, Crawford and Young families. She wrote three books on the families and their histories. She loved to travel to the beach, and a few months before her passing, she drove her sister to Daytona Beach and later drove three of her lady friends to Myrtle Beach for vacations. She was a Christian from an early age and lived her life for the Lord. She treasured being a part of Baptist church life and was involved from an early age. She was a member of the Elizabeth Baptist Church Shelby and a member of the Love ]oy Sunday School Class. She was constantly telling her family about how much she loved her pastor, staff, Sunday school class and church family. In addition to her parents and her husband, Kitty is preceded in death by her siblings, Foster, Euell W.C., and Henry Crawford; and, Minnie Belle Anthony, and Virginia Williams.

She has two sons, Dr. J. Mike Minnix and wife Jayne of Mt. Holly and Mr. Carl Stephen Minnix and wife Frieda of Shelby; siblings, Christine Smith, Janet Isrel and Ruth Byram; five grandchildren, Sherry Minnix Hefner, Chris Minnix & Amy Hamilton, Steve Minnix and Paul Minnix. She also has five great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and her beloved canine companion "Mee Me".

Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Dr. Rit Varriale officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00pm in the sanctuary.
