Larry Scott Boyles
Larry Scott Boyles, age 78 of Rudisill Ave passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Brian Center Gastonia. He was born on April 24, 1938 in Lincoln County to the late Hugh Richard and Grace Beatty Boyles. Larry was a professional boxer and a member of the Carolinas Boxing Hall of Fame. In 1954, Boyles boxed his way to the top of the Tar Heel State, winning the North Carolina Golden Gloves Championship. In 1956, Larry represented North Carolina in the National Golden Gloves Championship in New York. After boxing, he spent some time working at Carlton Mill. He then entered the antique business and set up booths at the Flea Market for over 30 years. He loved the Flea Market and also enjoyed going to the YMCA.
Survivors include his loving daughter, Sherry Scism and Mike Tessener of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Tripper Scism and Amber Scism, both of Cherryville; eight great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Fraley of Rocky Mount; and good friend, Jerry Stroupe of Cherryville.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Tim Hendrick officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
