Lincolnton Lions Club Recycle for Sight

In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become "the Knights of The Blind" in the crusade against darkness. The Lincolnton Lions Club have taken this crusade to heart in their eyeglasses recycling, vision screenings and services to the blind/visually impaired.
With the start of the New Year, The Lincolnton Lions are asking people to look through their dresser drawers, closets, attics, basements, and garages for used eyeglasses ( prescription and non-prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses) and donate them to the Lions Recycle For Sight Program.
"Unfortunately state and federal public health laws, we are not able to recycle eyeglasses in the USA. Contact lens are not recyclable," said Lion Faye Poovey, President of The Lincolnton Lions Club and a Denver resident. " All donated eyeglasses will cleaned, categorized by prescription and prepared for distribution by Lions and shipped overseas where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible," clarified Poovey. " In most developing countries, an eye examination can cost as much as one month's wages and a single eye doctor may serve a community of hundreds of thousands of people," relayed Poovey.
To donate used eyeglasses, deposit and recycle them in the specially marked Lions Club boxes at the following businesses, optometrist, ophthalmologist, and pharmacies in Cherryville, Denver, Lincolnton, and Vale:
