Marilyn Sue Biggers Neisler

Marilyn Sue Biggers Neisler, 87 of Kings Mountain, NC passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at her home. She was born in Charlotte, NC on August 7, 1928, the eldest child of the late William Carl and Mabel Williams Biggers. Her mother wrote the popular column "Ambling with Miss Charlotte" for the Charlotte Observer for over thirty-seven years. Marilyn graduated from Central High School in 1946 and later attended Queens College. During a summer vacation with her family at Crescent Beach, SC, she met Henry Parks Neisler of Kings Mountain. Later that day Henry excitedly told his mother that "I've met the girl I'm going to marry!" They were wed on November 8, 1949 and lived in Kings Mountain while Henry worked in his family's textile business. Later the couple was blessed with the arrival of three sons and Marilyn became a devoted mother and homemaker.

Upon her marriage to Henry, Marilyn joined First Presbyterian Church of Kings Mountain. She would faithfully serve as Elder, Sunday School teacher, and head of the kitchen committee over the course of seven decades.

Marilyn was a longtime director of the Kings Mountain Hospital and also served on the board of directors of Gaston Day School and the Cleveland County Health Department.

Marilyn will always be remembered for her wonderful personality and compassionate nature. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed growing flowers and working in her beloved garden.

Marilyn is survived by her three sons: Henry Parks Neisler, Jr. and his wife Leonor of Charlotte; William Hayne Neisler of Kings Mountain and David Carl Neisler of Kings Mountain. She is also survived by thirteen nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Parks Neisler and her two brothers, Dr. David Carl Biggers and Dr. William Paul Biggers.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Scott Mayse, Dr. Gary Frenette, Dr. Charles Meakin, and Dr. William Herndon for their extraordinary care and assistance. Special appreciation goes to her wonderful team of caregivers for attending her during the final months of her life: Jeanette Meeks, Doris Adams, Flossie Johnson, Christine Irvin, Rhonda Wilson, and Manuel Samuel.

A memorial service to celebrate Marilyn's life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain with Pastor Greg Martin, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be sent to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1188 Kings Mountain, North Carolina 28086
