Mary Magdalene Hopper Allen Maddox

Mrs. Mary Magdalene Hopper Allen Maddox 79, of 206 East Shannonhouse Street, Shelby, NC passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at her residence. She was born on March 21, 1941 in Cleveland County to the late Garland Hopper, Sr. and Hattie Mae Ross Hopper.

Mrs. Maddox was a longtime member of Ellis Chapel Baptist Church. She was employed with Esther Mills for 23 years and was also employed with Cone Mills before retiring from Snack Time Foods. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, planting flowers and gardening. But, ultimately she loved spending time with her family and loved taking care of her children and her grandchildren. She was a lovely person who never met a stranger and her smile could literally light up a room.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Eugene Allen; three children, Ella Mae Allen, Shirley Denise Allen and David Allen; two grandchildren, Tabatha Nicole Allen and Thomas Allen; one great-grandchild, Kyrie Jones; two brothers, Garland Hopper, Jr. and Hazelee Hopper; a sister, Carolyn Adams and a son-in-law, David Oglesby.

She leaves to cherish precious and fond memories of her to her children, Eugene Allen of the home, Willie Allen (Linda) of Shelby, Alma Jean Allen Jackson (Willis Lee) of Gastonia, NC, Angela Oglesby and Freida Allen Petty both of Shelby; sisters, Sarah Gill (Sherwood), Betty Archie, Rosie Williams (John) all of Shelby and Willie Mae Hopper Langston (Barry) of Boiling Springs, NC; brothers, Walter Hopper (Annie) of Cherryville, NC, Robert Hopper and Paul Hopper both of Shelby and Lemanuel Hopper of Boiling Springs; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; special cousin and best friend Brenda Hillman of the home; brother-in-laws, Robert Adams and Jimmy Lee Allen both of Shelby; sister-in-laws, Mittie Ruth Allen Hopper, Mary Allen both of Shelby and Rebecca Ross of Newton, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service for Mrs. Maddox will be private. She may be viewed at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 from 12:00 until 2:00 PM with a reception of friends from 1:30 until 2:00 PM at the church.
