Michael Kevin Pope, 49 of Shelby died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at his residence. Born September 16, 1963 in the city of Long Beach (Los Angeles County), CA, he was the son of Daniel Lee Pope of Hickory, NC and the late Patricia Elaine Snow Pope. 

Michael worked in Restaurant Management for several chain restaurants.  He had been disabled for several years. 

In addition to his father; his step-mother, Nicole "Niki" Martin Pope of Hickory; five sisters, Laura Doyle Hinrichs and husband Delon of Burlington, NC, Cindy Pope Schronce and husband Jeff of Hickory, Diane Michelle Pope of Corvina, CA, Danna Pope and husband Andrew Batcher of Silver Spring, MD  and Erica Pope of Hickory; a brother, Craig L. Wood of Hickory; two very special friends, Glenda Mataski and Ron Bingham, both of Shelby; two aunts Alice Pope Keenan of Hickory and Frankie Bumgarner Swanner and husband Joe of Bethlehem, NC; uncle Lewis Hefner, Sr., including numerous other aunts and uncles; cousins, Lewis Hefner, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Bethlehem, Alaina Hefner Lipfird and husband Larry, Lisa Bumgarner Dixon and husband Pete, Josh Dixon, Nathanial Dixon, Julie Bumgarner Harrington and husband Chad, Austin Harrington, Dylon Harrington, including numerous other cousins; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Doyle, Megan Hinrichs, Kayla Lanning, Ayannah Pope, Jeremy Doyle, Bryan Doyle, Dylon Lanning, Tyler Pope, including other numerous nieces and nephews survive him.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
