A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service at the Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Mittie Bridges was a faithful servant of God. She was a retired store owner and operator of Bridges Grocery that her and her husband started in 1935. She was a very strong willed, determined and courageous woman. She overcame many obstacles in her life. Faced with the burning of their store and the death of her husband at the age of 39 that was burned in the store, she had a strong faith in God that helped her rebuild the store and raised four children. She was a devoted Christian that helped her through many obstacles. The thing she enjoyed most was her friends that came and talked around the old potbellied stove in the store. She also enjoyed quilting, and her chickens. She was interesting to talk to and to listen to when talking about old times. She will be missed dearly by many.

The family would like to thank Dean McSwain, John and Grace Weaver, Jeanette and Bobby Clary for the many visits they made to Cleveland Pines Nursing Home that made her so happy. If they didn't come often, she would ask about them. She loved people and was a Christian influence on many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Rosa Phillips Humphries, her husband, Clyde L. Bridges, sons, Alvin Bridges and Melvin Bridges, a daughter, Maxine Peeler, two grandsons, Dennis Lee Bridges and Paul Peeler Jr., two brothers, T.C. Humphries and Charlie Humphries, and a sister, Ruby Moore.

She is survived by a son, Calvin "Bud" Bridges and wife Mary Fay Bridges, grandchildren; Michael Bridges and wife Mary Ann, David Bridges and wife Martha, Carol Revels, Kay Duncan, and Fay Bridges and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 or to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 198 Pleasant Ridge Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152.
