Muriel Wortman Southard, 74, of 1204 Ridgemont Ave, Shelby, passed away on

Wednesday, January 11, 2017.

Born March 25, 1942 in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Clem

Dixon Wortman and Thana Viller Wall Wortman. She was retired after 30 years

as a teacher's assistant at Washington Elementary School. She was a member

of the First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband,

Gene Southard; three brothers, Lloyd, J.P. and Lawton Wortman and three

sisters, Gladys Ledford, Pauline Earwood and Vertie Lail.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Fulton; a son, Mark Southard and wife,

Barbara of Shelby; a daughter, Karen Southard Stroud and husband, Lanny of

Lawndale; three grandchildren, Sara Melton and husband, Dusty, Brittany

Jones and husband, Luke and Jay Seagle; a great granddaughter, Sydney

Melton; step-daughter, Angie Shuda and husband, Tommy; two step-sons, Andrew

Fulton and wife, Sarah and Jason Fulton; two step grandsons, Brad Shuda and

wife, Michelle and Derrick Shuda and two step- grandchildren, A.J. Fulton

and Kate Fulton.

Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Friday, Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday at New Prospect Baptist Church

with Revs. Chip Sloan, Jim Brackett and Chris Devine officiating. The body

will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston
