Cleveland County Memorial Library
        On April 17, Georgiana Wright will bring her jazzy renditions of some favorite musical numbers.
        On May 1, a library staff member, Joy Cushing will accompany vocalists who will perform a selection of Broadway tunes. Other programs are TBA.
        Through the Garden Gate happens every first and third Thursday from 12:15-12:45 in the Library Meeting Room. Iced tea and water are served and your bag lunch is welcome. Take a friend and enjoy something a little special on your lunch hour.
International Lineman’s Museum, Shelby
        Lineman Appreciation Day is April 18 and the International Lineman’s Museum is celebrating with an Insulator show the April 18-19. The show will open from 10:30am until 2:00pm on Friday and 9:00am until 2:00pm on Saturday at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. For more details visit www.linemanmuseumshow.com.

Kings Mountain Fire Department
        The 2014 Annual Firehouse BBQ Cookoff sponsored by the Kings Mountain Fire Department will be April 18-19 at the Walking Track beside the YMCA in Kings Mountain, NC. This is a Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned event with the proceeds benefiting the charities of the KMFD. There will be live entertainment on Friday night and Saturday. City of Shelby Solid Waste Department
        The City of Shelby Solid Waste Department is having the Spring Bulky Item Pick-up the week of April 21-24. Beginning the 18th, you may begin placing items such as: furniture, boxes, mattresses, and bagged clothes, etc., on the curbside without being subject to citations or fines. Please do not place any items with limbs, leaves, or grass. The Solid Waste Department does not pick-up items such as: appliances, electronics, televisions, tires, building materials, paints, oils, and batteries, these items may be taken to the Cleveland County Landfills. Bulky Items will be picked up only on the same day during the week that your garbage is scheduled for pick up. Items placed or left on the curb after April 24th will be subject to citations and fines. There will be no leaf or brush collection during the bulky item pick up week.
Living Healthy with Diabetes Workshop
        Isothermal Planning & Development Commission Area Agency on Aging, NC Cooperative Extension (NCCE), and John Knox Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a Free “Living Health with Diabetes” Workshop April 21, 28, May 5 and 12, 5:30-8:00pm, at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 610 Charles Road, Shelby, NC.         Pet Loss Workshop - “Love You Forever”. If you have ever lost a pet, are dealing with grief, or your pet is beginning the journey to the Rainbow Bride, come join us! We’ll discusss end-of-life issues for your pet, stages of grief, how to handle questions and problems children may have, and memorializing that special buddy. Greater Shelby Community Theatre
        Greater Shelby Community Theatre will present the Shakespeare comedy “Taming of the Shrew” (Southern Fried) on April 25-27 and May 2-4 in the Keeter Auditorium on the campus of Cleveland Community College. You’ve never seen Shakespeare like this! It’s set in the communities of Cleveland County, the characters are down-home folks, and the play is accompanied by the Rock Springs Bluegrass Band. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30pm and Sunday performances are at 2:30pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors. CCC students and staff are admitted free with ID. Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society
        Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society will take a field trip to Roses Unlimited, 363 N. Deerwood Drive Laurens, SC, April 26. Take time to smell the roses. Nine greenhouses of roses in bloom for sale. From Shelby, they will carpool from Cleveland County Coop. Ext. office on Hwy 180 (next to Food Lion) in Shelby leaving at 9:00am.  From Lincolnton, meet at BiLo Parking lot on Hwy 150 (near Peoples Bank) at 9:00am. Lost Playwrights of Western North Carolina
        Lost Playwrights of Western North Carolina will meet Saturday, April 26, 2:00-4:00pm at The Village Coffee Shop on Oak Street in Forest City, behind Tri City Mall. All persons interested in any aspect of theatre or creative writing are encouraged to attend.
Broad River European Motor Club
        The Broad River European Motor Club will be having a car show in uptown Shelby on April 26. This is being held in conjunction with the Merry Go Round Festival, Farmer’s Market and Arts on the Square. We are hoping to attract at least 125 European cars to this event. Eighth Annual Arts on the Square, Shelby
        Eighth Annual Arts on the Square will be held April 26, on the Courthouse Square, Shelby, NC. The event showcases fine art and craft by local and regional artists. The show is held in conjunction with the Broad River European Motor Club show and the Foothills Farmers Market along with the newly opened Earl Scruggs Center. The outdoor event is free and held rain or shine.

Concerned Bikers Association of Cleveland County Golf Tournament
        Concerned Bikers Association of Cleveland County 4-Man, Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament will be May 3, at Woodbridge Golf Course, 1007 New Camp Creek Church Rd., Kings Mountain, NC. 10:00am Shotgun Start. 18 holes with cart, and meal, $200 team.         Survivors of Suicide Support Group meets twice a month, with a daytime and evening meeting. The Evening Group meets the 2nd Monday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (502 W. Sumter Street, Shelby, NC).  The Daytime Group meets the last Tuesday of every month from 11:30am - 1:30pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library (104 Howie Drive, Shelby, NC). Piecemakers Quilt Guild
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton.
