Gardner-Webb University's Theatre Arts
Gardner-Webb University's Theatre Arts Department is proud to present: #8 Thursday-Saturday, April 23-April 25, 2015, 7:30pm nightly; Sunday, April 26, 2015, 2:30pm Millennium Playhouse, at Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs, NC. Jean Battlo's play #8 is a Holocaust love story. In an unnamed eastern European country in 1939 the Stein family is faced with some very difficult choices. The family's only way out of the country is in the back of a grocery truck. Their place on the truck is insured when Moshe draws the number eight in a lottery. Cleveland County Arts Council
Exib dates: April 23 - May 21, 2015. Opening Reception: April 23, 5:30-7:30pm. The artwork by students in grades 3-12 will be on exhibit during this annual competition. Junior Charity League of Shelby, Inc.
The Junior Charity League of Shelby, NC, proudly presents its 1st Annul Charity Chase 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, April 25, 2015. With start and finish lines at the Shelby City Park, the course winds through the beautiful Sunset Cemetery where the late country music legend and Shelby native, Don Gibson, was laid to rest. Runners will pass Betty Singleton Holdridge's inspirational tombstone, which reads, "She came to Shelby as a simple fat lady in the fair. She left this earth as our friend." The course continues to the Historical District of Uptown Shelby, looping around the Courtsquare that houses the Earl Scruggs Center. This museum is dedicated to preserving the life story of legendary five-string banjo master and Cleveland County native, Earl Scruggs. Runners will make their final push back to the finish line at the Shelby Park where the award celebration will take place. 100% of proceeds will be used to purchase new clothing and hygiene items for Cleveland County children in need. Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center
Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center, 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, NC will be holding the following events in March and April:
Bingo - Each Monday Night (except holidays). Doors open at 5:30 (no admittance after 7:00pm). Jackpot - 60 people or more $500, 60 people or less $300. Public invited 12 years old and up.
Older American's Month "Super Spectacular" - Friday, May 1, 2015, 3:00pm with Open House and Information Fair. Free hot dog supper beginning at 5:00pm to all raffle participants and contributors. All others, $5. Reverse drawing will begin at 6:00pm. Tickets, $50 each (for a chance to win $3000 grand prize). Other chances to win (4) $500 plus other prizes will be given away. Casar's Veterans Memorial
Casar's Veterans Memorial is in the works! They need your help! Please let them know of any Veterans in Casar, NC. This includes any war, or no war, and active military. They must have live in Casar at some point in their life. (If they haven't lived in Casar, they can still be on the Memorial for a small fee of $25). The Cherryville Little Theatre
The Cherryville Little Theatre, 301 Academy Street, Cherryville, NC, would like to invite you to the auditions for "Shrek, Jr". Ages 11-18 are welcome to join us on Monday, May 18, 2015 or Tuesday, May 19, 2015, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm, at Cherryville Little Theatre. Rehearsals will be held Monday - Friday, July 20, 2015 through August 6, 2015, from 9:00am - 3:00pm. Performance Dates will be August 6-9, 2015. Students should be prepared to sing, read dialogue and perform a dance combination. An $80 registration fee is required after cast list is posted and role is accepted. Child Support Announces Anonymous Tip Line
The Cleveland County Child Support Office has opened a new tip Line to allow the public to anonymously report the whereabouts and any other information of noncustodial parents who may be avoiding establishment and/or enforcement of a child support order. Tipsters will be able to call the Tip Line 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will not be asked to leave their name or any other identifying information. When calling the Tip Line, helpful information would include the noncustodial parent's full name, date of birth, current address, phone number, place of employment, vehicle tag number, or any other information that could lead to the location of the person. The number for the Tip Line is 704-487-0661 and when prompted for an extension, dial extension 727.
Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group
Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group meets on Mondays from 12:00-1:00pm, at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 502 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC. The purpose of al-anon is to provide support to friends and families of alcoholics. Anyone who is affected by someone else's use of alcohol or drugs is invited to attend. Shelby High School Class Reunion
The Shelby High School class of 1965 is planning a 50 year reunion Friday, May 15, 2015, and Saturday, May 16, 2015. Friday, from 6:00-8:00pm, there will be a "meet and greet" at the Don Gibson Theatre. Hor d'oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. At 8:00pm, there will be an optional concert of R&B oldies featuring "Images." There is a $20 charge for the concert. On Saturday from 2:00-4:00pm, there will be a tour of Shelby High, and placing of a plaque marking a Ginko Tree given by this class. It will be followed by an ice cream social. That evening, from 6:00-7:00pm, there will be a social time and cash bar at the Legrand Center. From 7:00-8:00pm, there will be a meal catered by Smoke on the Square. And from 8:00-11:00pm, there will be a time to relive the memories. The cost for admission to the Legrand Center is $50 per person. Dress is casual for all events.
