2015 Relay For Life Cleveland County, Shelby Meeting Schedule: April 14, 2015, 5:00-7:00pm - Sweet Frog - Team Drop-in. April 15, 2015 - Uptown Spirit of Relay Celebration with Dr. Seuss and Friends at Earl Scruggs Center Event - 4:00-7:00pm. May 1, 2015 - Family Bake Sale at Medical Arts Pharmacy on Grover Street, 7:30am until. May 5, 2015, 6:00pm - Cleveland Vol Fire Department - Leadership Team. May 12, 2015 - Cleveland Vol Fire Department - Shirts and Bank Day. May 15, 2015 - Survivors drop-in begins a 4:00pm (t-shirt and goody bag pickup at this time) Survivors Walk begins at 6:00pm.
Double Springs Relay for Life yard sale to be held March 27 and 28. Clean out your closets, garage, and basement and donate it all. Then, come out to shop to help stop cancer. You can begin now bringing your unwanted treasures to the hand bell room in the Family Life Center. The yard sale and a hot dog supper will be held 5:00-7:00pm, Friday, March 27, 2015. Shop and eat supper, too. Saturday, March 28, the sale begins at 8:00am and ends at noon. A biscuit breakfast will be available. There will be sausage, ham, and butter biscuits, jam and juice, and coffee. All proceeds will benefit the Double Springs Relay for Life team.
Team Ollie will be having a fish fry fundraiser and scholarship fund in memory of Alan Biggerstaff, who Team Ollie is name, on Saturday, March 28, 2015, 12:00 noon - 7:00pm, at the Friendship Masonic Lodge in Boiling Springs, NC. Shine a Light on the Fight Against Cancer - During the Relay For Life Ceremony, votive candles are lit inside of personalized bags to shine a light on the fight against cancer. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to share their grief and find hope. During the Ceremony, candles and torches brighten the way for Relay For Life walkers through the night. In the soft glow of candlelight, we reflect on the courage and strength of all who are affected by cancer. Early Bird Opportunity: order torches by March meeting and have the matching picture on the ten bags that come with the torch.

Thursday, April 2, 2015, 11:30am - The Council on Aging will sponsor its first Annual Easter Luncheon, to be held at the Council on Aging. The menu will consist of a cold plate lunch including homemade chicken salad, carrot raisin salad, pasta salad, potato salad, croissant, assorted desserts, tea and water. The cost is $8 per person. You must purchase a ticket in advance to attend. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are on sale now through Monday, March 30, 2015, which is the deadline date for tickets to be purchased. There will be a guest speaker and entertainment provided by the gospel group "Partners in Ministry" with Rev. James Lochridge, Jr. and Bill McMurrey. Cleveland County Arts Council
Community Drum Circles - Saturday, March 28, 2015 will be the third of the community drum circles, hosted by Song Harper Music. Arrive at the Cleveland County Art's Council as early as 12:00pm to get your seat and warm your fingers and toes. They will play till about 1:30pm. This event is FREE and open to the community! Bring your drums; bring your family and friends. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
Arts Council Benefit - There will be a fun 1-day event to benefit the Arts Council. You will find great deals on: Frames, Art, Pottery, Easels, Fabric, Yarn, Sewing Machine, Thread, Supplies, Tools & so much More! Help them by cleaning out your closets and studios! Donation drop off: thru April 3, 9:30am - 5:30pm Accepting: Unfinished kits, yarn materials, jewelry (please bag in zip lock style bag), paints, frames, brushes, easels, prints, game pieces, art materials & supplies, pottery, art books, fabric, etc. Please nothing broken. Kingstown Community Watch
Kingstown Community Watch will have an Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Kingstown Park. The event is free and open to the public. Children ages from 0-12. There will be cash prizes in for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Snacks will be available for purchase. For information call 704-482-1557.

City of Shelby Parks and Recreation Dept.
The City of Shelby Parks and Recreation Department is requesting proposals for rights to operate food and beverage concessions as described in the Concession Services Agreement. Interested parties must submit their Bid Proposal no later than Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 2:00pm. Bids must be delivered to the Parks and Recreation Department either in person or mail. Bids will be opened the day and time stated above. The City is not obligated to accept any bid for any reason, and reserves the right to negotiate with the apparent high bidder prior to awarding bid. Annual Boy Scout Fish Fry

Annual Iron City Festival, Blacksburg
The Iron City Festival is approaching. The Blacksburg Business Association's tenth annual event will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 9:00am - 9:00pm in the downtown area. The 3rd annual Little Miss Iron City Festival pageant will include girls through age ten. All events are free except an entry fee for those participating in the pageant. Bring your camera to take pictures in the Big Red Chair. "PLAIR" from Rock Hill will be the featured band from 7:00-9:00pm. Bring your chair and enjoy a variety of music. The festival will end with fireworks around 10:00. If possible, bring canned food or other non-perishable to be donated to Iron City Ministries. Spring Bulky Item Pickup, City of Shelby
The City of Shelby Solid Waste Department is having the Spring Bulky Item Pick-up the week of April 20-23, 2015. Beginning on Friday, April 17, 2015, you may begin placing items such as: furniture, boxes, mattresses, and bagged clothes, etc., on the curbside without being subject to citations or fines. Please do not place any items in the street or mix these items with limbs, leaves, or grass. The Solid Waste Department does not pick-up items such as: appliances, electronics, televisions, tires, building materials, paints, oils, and batteries, these items may be taken to the Cleveland County Landfills. Bulky Items will be picked up only on the same day during the week that your garbage is scheduled for pick-up. Items placed or left on the curb after Thursday, April 23, 2015, will be subject to citations and fines. There will be no leaf or brush collection during bulky item pick-up week.

Junior Charity League of Shelby, Inc.
The Junior Charity League of Shelby, NC, proudly presents its 1st Annul Charity Chase 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, April 25, 2015. With start and finish lines at the Shelby City Park, the course winds through the beautiful Sunset Cemetery where the late country music legend and Shelby native, Don Gibson, was laid to rest. Runners will pass Betty Singleton Holdridge's inspirational tombstone, which reads, "She came to Shelby as a simple fat lady in the fair. She left this earth as our friend." The course continues to the Historical District of Uptown Shelby, looping around the Courtsquare that houses the Earl Scruggs Center. This museum is dedicated to preserving the life story of legendary five-string banjo master and Cleveland County native, Earl Scruggs. Runners will make their final push back to the finish line at the Shelby Park where the award celebration will take place. 100% of proceeds will be used to purchase new clothing and hygiene items for Cleveland County children in need. Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group
Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group meets on Mondays from 12:00-1:00pm, at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 502 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC. Child Support Announces Anonymous Tip Line
The Cleveland County Child Support Office has opened a new tip Line to allow the public to anonymously report the whereabouts and any other information of noncustodial parents who may be avoiding establishment and/or enforcement of a child support order. Tipsters will be able to call the Tip Line 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will not be asked to leave their name or any other identifying information. When calling the Tip Line, helpful information would include the noncustodial parent's full name, date of birth, current address, phone number, place of employment, vehicle tag number, or any other information that could lead to the location of the person. The number for the Tip Line is 704-487-0661 and when prompted for an extension, dial extension 727.
