Mrs. Ora George Hawkins, 88, of Shelby, NC, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010. Services were held at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. 

Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband, John Hawkins; her parents, Robert Hardy and Audrey Sherrill George; 1 brother, Lloyd George; and 2 sisters, Mae Francis and Macie George.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Hilda Blanton and husband Tony of Shelby; 2 sons, Hugh Bess and wife Carolyn, and Harold Bess and wife Sharon, all of Shelby; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Sue Rippy and husband Gene of Shelby, Mary Francis Wilkerson and husband Bill of N. Augusta, SC, and Nancy Jolly of High Point, NC; and 2 brothers, Jack George and wife Rosalyn of Aiken, SC, and Bob George of New Ellenton, SC.
