Peggy Marie Ariail Bridges
 After a long illness, Peggy Marie Ariail Bridges, 86, a life-long resident of Cleveland County, N.C., passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2014, at the Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.  She was born October 1, 1928 to the late Vincent Dallas Ariail and Minnie Tanner Ariail, then of Lattimore.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin A. Bridges, to whom she was married for 64 years. 

          For almost 50 years, she worked closely with her husband at Norris Packing Company, of which they were the owners, and at Norris Merchandise of Shelby which was co-founded with their son, David.  Peggy was a devoted mother and grandmother and long-time member of Zoar Baptist Church.

          In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Odessa Woodard and Betty Lyles of Asheville, Christine Spangler of Shelby and her brother, Lawrence Ariail of Belmont.

          Surviving are her two sons, L. Michael Bridges and wife, Mary Ann, of Oak Hill, Virginia and David A. Bridges and wife, Martha, of Shelby.  Also surviving are her two grandchildren, Sara Bridges Tongel and husband, Todd, of Shelby and Andrew Bridges of Charlotte, her great granddaughter, Taylor Tongel of Shelby, her sister, Velma Holcombe of Asheville, mother-in-law, Mittie Bridges and brother-in-law, Calvin Bridges and his wife Mary Faye, all of Shelby and a number of nieces and nephews.

          Mrs. Bridges’ funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on  Friday, October  31, 2014, at Zoar Baptist Church, 1740 S. Lafayette St., Shelby, with Dr. Rob Helton and Dr. Robert Rose officiating.  Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

          The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, at Clay–Barnette Funeral Home, 1401 West Dixon Blvd., Shelby, N.C.

            The family would like to express their thanks to the dedicated staff at Carillion and Cleveland Pines for the exceptional care they provided to Mrs. Bridges.
