Every Thursday from 7pm to 9pm folks from all over the area bring their instruments and gather around at BUCKSAVER #4 convenient store . It’s “where old friends meet and new friends are made”. The sign as you enter still reads Jerry’s Mini Mart and the store is still often referred to as Jerry’s. There’s no cover charge, just come as you are. Some folks snack on a bag of chips or Fritos, others a hot dog and fries. Some just come to sit, clap and sing along. This fun community event was started by Buford Chapman when he got permission to play every Thursday evening. The night we were there, eleven men (known as the “The Polkville Pickers”) were gathered in a circle pickin’ and playin’. The gathering has grown to be one of the best informal get togethers we’ve seen in quite a while. The parking lot is packed and inside everyone is having a great time, just like the days of old. Go visit some Thursday and listen to some of the music of our heritage. The store is located at 4400 Polkville Rd. at the stoplight. Ya’ll come by, ya hear!
