Ralph Reuben Spangler
Mr. Ralph Reuben Spangler, 94, of 3303 Rube Spangler Road, Lawndale, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.

Born in Cleveland County on May 16, 1920 to the late C.R. and Elizabeth Cabaniss Spangler, he ran and operated his own cattle farm.  In recognition of 50 years of work in the cattle industry as well as being a charter member
and faithful supporter of the Cleveland County Cattlemen's Association, Mr. Spangler became the first inductee the the Cattleman's Hall of Fame on January 26, 2001.

Mr. Spangler also served on the board of trustees for Cleveland Memorial Hospital and Gardner Webb University. He was a member and proudly supported the Christian Service Organization at Gardner Webb University.  He served on
the NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation District and the board of directors for the local American Red Cross, and was a former member of the Shelby Lions Club.  

Mr. Spangler was a faithful member of Double Shoals Baptist Church where hewas an active trustee and past deacon, and served on various other committees.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Thomas Spangler and sister, Golda Spangler.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clevie Whisnant Spangler; son, Ronald Spangler and wife Ginger of Lawndale; daughters, Margie Christopher and husband Stephen of Lawndale and Mary Ann Lattimore and husband Dobbin of
Polkville; four grandchildren, Beth Sibley of Charlotte, Josh Spangler and wife Brooke of Charlotte; Katie Earl and husband Greg of Lawndale, and Elizabeth Lattimore of Raleigh; and four great-grandchildren, Bryce Spangler, Taylor Spangler, Cooper Earl and Parker Earl.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Fallston.  Condolences may be made online at

The funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Double Shoals Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Brian Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
