Ray "Bud" Poteat
Ray "Bud" Poteat, age 86, of Mayo, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, November 16, 2015 at the White Oak Manor in Spartanburg, SC.
Born July 28, 1929 in Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Will N. and Emma McDonald Poteat. Bud was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, and worked for Fiske Carter Construction Co. for over 30 years. Bud was a member of Graham Chapel Wesleyan Church. He was a kind, loving person and was blessed to have made many friends during his earthly life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are a brother, Jim Poteat and wife, Judy of Mayo; granddaughter, Amanda W. Henson and husband, Brandon and great-grandson, Braydon Henson of Boiling Springs, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Laverne McDaniels; brothers, Holiroid Scruggs and Tommy Poteat; half-brother, J.W. "Dub" Poteat; half-sisters, Kathleen Poteat Genobles and Florene Poteat Cash.
A memorial graveside service will be conducted at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Graham Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery with Rev. Chad Bowen and Ms. Debra Gecan officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Graham Chapel Wesleyan Church, 235 Graham Chapel Road, Cowpens, SC 29330
The family wishes to express our many thanks to the staff at White Oak Manor in Spartanburg, SC for the loving care he received while a resident at their facility.
