Rhodes receives award from Boys & Girls Club

Hoyt Q. Bailey Honor Day Camper Award
The Honor Day Camper award is named each year in honor of an individual who has made a significant impact on the Boys & Girls Club. It is then presented to one club member who exemplifies the character and spirit of the Boys & Girls Club throughout their participation in the Jack and Ruth Schweppe Summer Day Camp Program.
This year's award is named in honor and memory of Mr. Hoyt Q. Bailey. Bailey was one of the community leaders who founded the Club, and he served as the first board president. For more than 60 years, Bailey worked to make the Boys & Girls Club a place that would make a difference in the life of children, especially those that needed help the most. He was recognized for his life-long support of the Club.
The youth recipient of the Hoyt Q. Bailey Honor Day Camper Award is Demajae Rhodes. Rhodes is a student at Shelby Intermediate School where he plays the violin in orchestra. He has played on the club's basketball team for several years and has helped win multiple championships. He has been an active participant in the both the after-school program and the Jack and Ruth Schweppe Summer Day Camp Program. He is the son of Micha Rhodes. Along with his award, he received a $50 gift card from the Boys & Girls Club's Board of Directors. honoring his achievement.

The Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland County held its Annual Awards Banquet and program at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Shelby on Friday Evening, April 8, 2016. Board President Jack Weller was Master of Ceremonies for the evening, which honored many of last year's volunteers, supporters and participants in the Club's programs.
Located at 412 West Sumter Street, Shelby, the Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland County serves more than 400 local children and their families. The Club's mission is to enable all children in our community, especially those who need help the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
