Roscoe Charles Patterson

Mr. Roscoe Charles Patterson, age 84 of Shelby, NC, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Kings Mountain Hospice House.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, October 31, 2014 at Putnam Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Bryan Glisson and Rev. Gary Marburger.  Visitation will be held from 1:30 – 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.     

   He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jermine (Melton) Patterson of the home, three daughters, Wanda Bridges and husband Max of Ellenboro, NC, Connie Young and husband Bill of Lexington, KY, and Kathy Forbes and husband Jim of Shelby, NC, a daughter-in-law, Darla Patterson of Shelby, NC, eight grandchildren, Ashley Craig and husband Lewis of Rutherfordton, NC, John Bridges and wife Kasey of Simpsonville, SC, Zachary Young and fiancée Kayla Toler of Lexington, KY, Taylor Young and fiancée Sarah Holbrook of Lexington, KY, Chelsea Patterson of Charlotte, NC, Charlie Patterson and fiancée Emily Okon of Shelby, NC, Brooke Brack and husband Marshall of Shelby, NC, and Lauren Patrick of Shelby, NC, eight great grandchildren, Johnathan Craig, Jeremiah Craig, Jacob Craig, Addison Bridges, Scarlett Young, Tucker Brack, Aiden Brack, and Kingsley Drakeford.

   Born September 7, 1930 in Shelby, NC, Mr. Patterson was the son of the late Fennell and Mattie (Blanton) Patterson and was preceded in death by a son, Gary Patterson, a brother, Ben Patterson, and two sisters, Lucille Heffner and Faye Hudson. Serving in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, Mr. Patterson earned the rank of SGT working and driving for the commanders.  After an Honorable Discharge, Roscoe worked as a clerk at Crowders Supermarket and worked in construction for J.R. Webber Construction.  Roscoe owned and operated Patterson Army Surplus in Shelby. Mr. Patterson had a giving heart befriending many and helping those in need.  A Charter Member of Putnam Baptist Church, Roscoe served as a Deacon, teaching Sunday School Class Junior Boys for more than 40 years, an RA Leader, and greeter.  Mr. Patterson was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

   Pallbearers will be Marshall Brack, Lewis Craig, John Bridges, Zachary Young, Charlie Patterson, and Taylor Young.

   The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the staff at Kings Mountain Hospice House.
