Roy Eugene “Gene” Brooks, age 71, of W. Church St. died Monday, December 30, 2013 at Hospice of Wendover. He was born on February 11, 1942 in Gaston County, a son of the late Nelson and Essie Jarrell Brooks. Gene was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from Dixie Industrial and IDG.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Dellinger; and brothers, Robert Boyd Brooks and wife, Catherine, and Billy Grant Brooks.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Papot Brooks; daughter, Lauri Hastings (Doug) of Cherryville; grandson, Dylan Hastings; brothers, Alfred Brooks (Betty) of Cherryville and Nicky Joe Brooks (Billie Mae) of Homestead, FL; brother-in-law, E.W. Dellinger of Cherryville; sister-in-law Claudine Brooks of Cherryville; and a number of nieces.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 3:00 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Eric Childers officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:30 at the Carpenter’s Funeral Home prior to the service.
