Vagnozzi earns private pilot's license

Recently in the Shelby Composite Squadron, we had an exciting accomplishment from one of our cadets. Cadet 1st Lieutenant Anthony Vagnozzi is the second cadet to receive his private pilot's license within the Civil Air Patrol program in Shelby, North Carolina.
From the first time this cadet went on an orientation flight he said he knew he was going to fly. So what is next for this youth of age 19, he is going to pursue a career in aviation and wants to be an airline pilot.
When asked, Vagnozzi said he was thankful for all the volunteer senior members at the Shelby Composite Squadron and most grateful to Captain Cheryl Stearns who has given of her time in a way he said he could never repay. He said she is a perfect example of a great mentor.
Captain Cheryl Stearns has an impressive background. In the Army, she became the first female member of the Golden Knights, the U.S. Army's elite parachute team. She is one of the most successful competitive skydivers in the world, and is currently a pilot for American Airlines. The squadron is very fortunate to have someone like her giving of her time.
The Civil Air Patrol program is an Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. This non-profit organization is for youth ages 12-18 as well as adults. When people hear of the program they typically think military and flying but there is so much more.
Aerospace education is only one part of our focus. There is Character development, leadership, physical fitness, teambuilding, emergency services, search and rescue, cyber security, and more.
If you are interested in being a part of this organization we would love for you to come out for a visit. Our meetings are every Tuesday at the Shelby Airport from 6-8:30pm. You can also visit our facebook page which iswww.facebook.com/capshelbysquadron for more information.
