Virginia Mae Gurley Price

Virginia Mae Gurley Price, Age 92, passed away January 15, 2017, at Hospice
Wendover. She was born May 18, 1924, in Rutherford County, North Carolina,
to James A. and Mamie Melton Gurley. She was preceded in death by her
husband of 70 years, Julius Elmer Price. She was also preceded in death by
brother Blaine Gurley of Golden Valley; sisters Beth Brandle of Forest City,
Louise Stallings of Golden Valley, Ina Lee White of Shelby, and Mildred
McCurry of Spindale ; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Parker of Marion.

Mrs. Price is survived by three sons, Wayne and wife Eugenia of Casar,
Richard and Debbie of Hickory, and Alan and wife Jeanne of Shelby. Seven
grandchildren: Amy Luper and husband Tim of Raleigh, Steven Price and wife
Tonya of Casar, Garen McClure and wife Spring of Hillsborough, Denny Price
and wife Lauren of Brooklyn, NY, Amanda Crotts and husband Matt of
Cornelius, Tara Gander and husband Mike of China Grove, and Scott Moss and
wife Karen of Boiling Springs, NC. Ten Great-grandchildren: Katie and
Lilly Price; Cameron Luper; Gus and Zora McClure; Owen, Elam, and Hagen
Crotts; and Landon and Jackson Gander.

Mrs. Price is also survived by brothers Glen Gurley of Glen Alpine and Ed
Gurley and wife Hester of Golden Valley; sister Pauline McCurry and husband
Glenn (Tib) of Golden Valley. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Ruth Gurley
of Golden Valley, Ruth Ann Patten and husband Ron of Casar, and Mildred
Fletcher of Valdese; and brother-in-law Hugh Dean Price and Peggy of Casar.
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Price's main concern was for the care of her family including many
Sunday meals, enjoyed by all. She always had pies, homemade jellies and
pickles, canned food from her garden, and many treats that they enjoyed. She
cherished visits to and from family and friends. She was widely known for
her passion for piecing, appliqueing, and hand-stitching numerous quilts for
family and friends. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of
Casar and up until November she was an active participant in senior citizens
as well as women's projects, including making many baby quilts for the
Pregnancy Resource Center. She and her husband enjoyed traveling with
friends. They were prominent cattle farmers and gardeners and loved to
share their produce with neighbors and friends. She was retired from
Shadowline Corporation.

The family extends special thanks to Emily Gantt, ANP, Gentiva Home Health,
and Hospice Cleveland County.

The family honors her life with the display of many of her handmade quilts.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 18, from 5-8:00 p.m., at
Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion
Baptist Church, 600 Mt. Zion Church Road, Casar, NC, Thursday, January 19,
at 2:00 conducted by Pastor Jamie Bridges, with burial in the church
cemetery.
