Alfred Lee Poteet


Forest City - Alfred Lee Poteet, 97, died peacefully at Magnolias of Gaffney on February 24, 2019. He was born on December 9, 1921 in Cleveland County to the late Elbert Sidney Poteet and Mattie Webb Poteet. Alfred was formerly from the Sandy Mush community and was a member of Sandy Mush Baptist Church. He was a WWII veteran with the US Navy and received 2 purple hearts.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his two wives Inez Varner Poteet and Betty Hoots Poteet, one brother Charles Elbert Poteet and one sister Catherine P. Whitman.

He is survived by three daughters: Susan Brown of Forest City, NC, Burma H. Poteat and husband Steve of Gaffney, SC, and Donna H. Robertson of Mt. Holly, NC. He also leaves behind two grandsons Michael Poteat and wife Tisha of Indianland, SC and Mark Poteat and wife Karen of Aiken, SC, two granddaughters Sherri R. Conly and husband Mike and Keri R. Edwards and husband Tim of Clover, SC as well as 2 great-grandsons, 2 great-granddaughters, 1 nephew and 5 nieces. He will be greatly missed but left us with many precious memories.

A memorial service to celebrate Lee's life will be 2:00pm Saturday March 2, 2019 at Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

The family greatly appreciates the services and care given by the staff at Magnolias and by Agape Hospice.
