Alive After Five Season Announced

Uptown Shelby Association presents Alive After Five, scheduled to begin May 23rd.  Concerts will continue on alternating Thursdays in June, August, and the first Thursday in September from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Uptown Shelby on Court Square.  Excitement fills the air as the highly anticipated concert series schedule promises great entertainment.   Come enjoy live music in Uptown Shelby as we celebrate the 19th year of music, festivities and fun.
The series begins with The Overmountain Men, a band that blends great Americana style, super-band talent and a strong local connection. As we head to Memorial Day weekend, remember that Overmountain Men’s name commemorates the patriots who came from the mountains to the north to fight at Kings Mountain. Other Alive After Five bookings include Dirty Grass Soul with their Bluegrass flavored versions of alternative country playing on June  6th. Big Daddy Love will be taking the stage on June 20th with their lively and tuneful  take on Appalachian Rock.
The schedule changes a bit with the introduction of Street Scene evenings in July to focus on acoustic music and activities on street corners around Uptown Shelby.  During the peak of the summer heat on July 4th and July 18th Uptown Shelby will present  art activities with support from Art Blooms Do It Yourself studio and musicians around court square and Lafayette Street.
August returns with Harvest, a jam-band style group that plays deeply rooted Americana music. Great dancing and toe-tapping times when they take the stage on August  1. We celebrate the return of the classic beach music when The Ocean Boulevard Band comes to the stage on August 15th and gets the local audience shagging with spirit. And the season comes to a close on September 5th with Tater Family Travelling Circus when they bring their high test Hillbilly rock to Uptown Shelby again.
Uptown Shelby Association’s Alive After Five 2013 season would not be possible without our generous local community sponsors Fox Distributing, Shelby Shopper and Info, Shelby Savings Bank, Star Stage and Sound, Keeter Ford-Lincoln-Rousch, Griffin Brothers Tire, PSU Personnel Services Unlimited,  The Star, The City of Shelby , Wesson Septic Tank Service and WGWG.org.
The Kid Zone will be sponsored again by Shelby Savings with games and activities for all kids. While the kids and the Shelby Savings team do some crafts or play some games, parents can turn their attention to the stage for a while. Come hungry because vendors will line the streets selling hot dogs, hamburgers, funnel cakes, and Italian ice.  And returning is the popular Craft Beer Spotlight, presented by Fox Distributing in the beer garden.  Fun activity will fill the streets of Shelby.  You won’t want to miss Alive After Five this season!
And remember, movies are also a part of the summer scene in Uptown Shelby. The Summer Cinema series at the Don Gibson Theatre begins on Wednesday, June 12th, and all other evening films are on the second and fourth Thursdays. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $1 along with free popcorn.  The family movies start at 7p.m. and are finished by 9 p.m..
