Alvin "Ab" Houser Hamrick
Alvin "Ab" Houser Hamrick, 93, of Fallston Road, Fallston, passed away, Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Testa Hospice House in Kings Mountain. He was born in Cleveland County on April 10, 1922 to the late William Franklin Hamrick and Emma Jane Cline Hamrick. He was the owner and operator of Hamrick's Men's Clothing in Lawndale and was a member of Fallston Baptist Church. Ab was a World War II Veteran serving as a rifle platoon commander in Company G, 320th infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division for 13 months, leading that platoon during the Normandy and Rhineland Campaigns. He received two Bronze Stars, Silver Star for heroism, and Purple Heart for injuries received. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Willard Hamrick and two brothers, D.S. Hamrick and Dixon Hamrick. He is survived by his son, Bill Hamrick and wife Teresa of Fallston; Jane Spangler and husband Tim of Lincolnton and Jean Brooks and husband Mike of Holly Hill, SC; sister, Lou Alice Whisnant of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Jason Spangler, Mandy Wooten, Shelley Westbury, Joshua Brooks, Chelsea Upton, Misty Wright, Victoria Allison and Brittany Rice; eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 9, 2016, from 10:00 AM to 11:00AM at Fallston Baptist Church. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11 :00 AM at Fallston Baptist Church with the Revs. David Blanton and Bob Cline officiating. The burial will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites.
