Arthur Randall (Randy) Burrell
Monday, June 1, 2026 2:16 pm Arthur Randall (Randy) Burrell, 78, of Blacksburg passed away Monday, May 25, 2026 at home. Mr Burrell was born in Spartanburg in 1948. Mr Burrell was the son of the late Arthur Lee Burrell and Hazel (Babe) Louise Emory Burrell. He was the beloved husband of Leigh Burrell and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Randy retired from Flowers Baking Company where he was the President of Sales.
Randy was a proud alumni of Chapman High School, Class of 1967, where he excelled as a four-sport athlete competing in football, baseball, basketball, and track and field. Randy graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College, Class of 1969, where he continued his love for athletics. He was the Captain of the basketball team, All-Conference and All-American in baseball in 1969. Randy is on the wall of fame at Spartanburg Methodist College for baseball and basketball from 1967-1969. Randy continued his education at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC and graduated in 1970 where he was recognized for his academic and campus leadership by being selected for inclusion in the 1969-1970 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. After college, Mr Burrell proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army at Fort Hood, Texas from 1970-1972. In his spare time, Randy enjoyed gardening, spending time in his yard, watching his favorite collegiate teams, Duke Blue Devils and Clemson Tigers, traveling and playing golf.
Survivors include a daughter Megan Bennett (Brad), a son Jonah Burrell (Ray) and their mother Brenda McAbee (Jimmy). In addition, Randy leaves behind a daughter Paula Duckett (Robert), a granddaughter Kayla Ham (James), a grandson Andrew Woody (Aleyha), and two great-grandsons Jaxon Ham and Ryker Woody, one sister Penny Leonard (Eddie), five brothers Kenny Burrell, Jerry Burrell (Deana), Terry Burrell (Kathy), Greg Burrell (Donette), Jamey Burrell (Tiffany).
Randy was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathy Hamlett. A private celebration of life will be held Sunday, May 31, 2026 conducted by Rev. Vernon Craig and Rev Will Cook.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Association of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties, PO Box 1582, Spartanburg, SC 29304. Families will be at their respective homes.
