Avery Douglas "Doug" Jenkins, Sr., age 79 of Absher Road, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Carolina Care and Rehabilitation, Cherryville.

He was born December 29, 1940 in Gaston County to the late Avery Rowe Jenkins and the late Emma Bell Goforth.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Jenkins; brother, Joe Jenkins; and sister, Ruth Meadows.

He is survived his son, Avery "DJ" Jenkins, Jr. (Kamaile); daughters, Mary Garrett (David), Dana Smith (Greg), and Kim Moore (John); brothers, Mack Jenkins (Susan), Dewey Jenkins (Joy), and Gary Jenkins (Edith); sister, Lauretta Carawan (Paul); 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jenkins will Lie in State from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, November 2, 2020 at Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face coverings will be required.

A private burial will take place at Westview Gardens at a later date.
