Blacksburg -- Barbara Peterson Harris, 88, of 410-1/2 S. Chester St., passed away on Sunday, April 12th, 2026, at her home.

Born in Blacksburg, she was the widow of Thomas Walter "Tarp" Harris Jr., and the daughter of the late Carl and Lela Allen Peterson. Barbara retired as a custodian for Cherokee County and was a member of Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Harris are a daughter, Cynthia Harris Ridings; a son, Lane Harris (Barbara); three grandchildren: Calvin Ridings, Brianna Chandler, and Courtney Black; four great-grandchildren: Gideon Black, Leighton Warner, Weston Chandler, and Harrison Chandler; and a sister, Helen Hardin.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 19th, 2026, from 2:00-3:00pm at Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00pm at Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church with Rev. Michael D. Owen officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Calvin Ridings, Alan Hardin, Randy Phillips, Mark Hardin, Dale Hardin, and Brett Chandler will serve as pallbearers.
