 Mrs. Barbara Sue Laney Carpenter, 63, of 1138 Mitchell St., Shelby, NC, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010. Services were held at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Cleveland Memorial Park. 

Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her parents, General Richard and Mary Anita King Laney; and 1 son, Thomas Christopher Putnam.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, John Carpenter of the home; 1 son, Charles Steven Putnam of Shelby; 2 brothers, Charles Richard Laney of Arkansas, and Robert Steven Laney of Michigan; and 1 grandson.

Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, Shelby, NC is serving the family.
