Barry Steven Ledford
Barry Steven Ledford, known affectionately as Steve to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, in Charleston, West Virginia. Born on October 8, 1957, in Shelby, North Carolina, Steve's life was a rich tapestry of adventure, courage, and love, woven through the years he shared with those who knew him best.
Steve was a man whose presence was felt in every room he entered. His adventurous spirit was matched only by his courageous heart, traits that endeared him to many and inspired those around him. He lived his life with a loving kindness that resonated in his every action, leaving a legacy of warmth and affection that will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Before his passing, Stee was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Patsy Ledford, and his brother, Michael Ledford. His memory will be carried on by his devoted wife of 18 years, Brenda, and his three children, Anthony Whitworth and his wife Tara, Amy Terry and her husband Brandon, and Angie Crotts and her husband Brian. Steve's spirit will live on through his eleven grandchildren, Dalton Pearson and his wife Zoe, Austin Pearson and his wife Taylor, Haydon Oaks and his girlfriend Alexis Poindexter, Dawson Oaks, Preston Styles, Carson Whitworth, Brayden Lewis, Kaylee Crotts, and Emma and Logan Metcalf, as well as his four great-grandchildren, Sadie Oaks, Hadleigh, Bristol, and Blair Pearson, who will all miss their beloved patriarch.
Steve's life was one of movement and passion. As a long-distance over-the-road trucker, he traveled the highways of America, witnessing its grandeur firsthand. His work was more than a job; it was an extension of his love for the open road and the freedom it represented. Steve's dedication to his profession was paralleled by his involvement in various associations, where he made lasting connections and friendships.
Outside of work, Steve's interests were as varied as they were intense. A former dirt track race car driver, he never lost his love for the thrill of the race. His passion for NASCAR was a constant in his life, and he could often be found cheering on his beloved Carolina Panthers during NFL season. Saturdays were reserved for college football, a tradition he held dear.
Steve was also known for his exceptional skills as a handyman, particularly when it came to auto repair. His practical knowledge and deft hands could breathe life into any vehicle. At home, he took immense pride in his lawn, believing firmly that no one could mow it quite as perfectly as he could. This attention to detail and commitment to excellence were hallmarks of Steve's character.
The words adventurous, courageous, and loving are not enough to capture the essence of Steve, but they offer a glimpse into the man he was. His journey through life was one of purpose and joy, and though he has left this earthly realm, the stories of his exploits and the memories of his compassion will continue to be told by those who loved him.
Barry Steven Ledford's life was a testament to the beauty of embracing one's passions and the importance of family. He will be deeply missed, but the impact of his life's journey will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. As we say goodbye to Steve, we take solace in knowing that his legacy will endure through the lives he touched and the love he gave.
