Betty Jean Gill Goforth, 81, of Shelby, NC, entered into eternal rest on February 24, 2026, at Via Health Partners, formerly Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC. She was born in Cleveland County, NC, to the late Ed McKinley Hill and the late Mattie Mae Lawrence Hill on June 1, 1944.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Scott Goforth, Sr.; daughter, Frances Victoria Goforth; siblings, Elizabeth Clements, Rose Hill Witherstone; and special aunt, Ola Mae Holmes.

She leaves her cherished memory to her children, Merry Oates (Greg), Wilma Goforth, and Scott

Goforth, Jr., all of Shelby, NC; siblings, Agnes Ashe and Mabel Hill both of Providence, RI, Eddie Hill and Thomas Hill, both of Lawndale, NC; six grandchildren, Rashun Goforth, Victoria Goforth, Antonio Goforth and Perez Goforth, who grew up in the home and Gregory Oates and Quavis Oates; ten great-grandchildren; sisters in laws, Kathleen Goforth and Nettie Goforth; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Bethlehem Temple, Grover, NC. Burial took place at the church cemetery.
