Betty Jean Jennings Dixon, a devoted servant of God, beloved mother, cherished friend, and pillar of her community, entered her eternal rest on Easter Monday, at home, surrounded in love by the son she held so dear. She lived a life marked by purpose, compassion, and unwavering faith, and her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the lives she touched.
Born on August 14, 1930, in Richmond VA, Betty carried a spirit of determination and kindness from an early age. She was gifted in so many ways, supporting her late husband in his work at Dixon Tire, pouring her creativity, integrity, and work ethic into everything she did. Their business was more than a livelihood--it was a ministry of its own, a place where she encouraged others, offered guidance, and lived out her belief that excellence honors God.
Her heart for service extended far beyond the walls of the family business. Moved by a deep compassion for the forgotten and the hurting, Mrs. Dixon founded a prison ministry that transformed countless lives. She brought hope into places many overlook, reminding every person she met that redemption is real and that God's love reaches everywhere. Her ministry became a lifeline for many, offering prayer, mentorship, and the assurance that no one is beyond grace.
A trailblazer in her faith community, Mrs. Dixon made history as the first female deacon at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby NC. She served with humility, strength, and a servant's heart, always ready to pray with someone, lend a hand, or step into whatever role God called her to. Her leadership opened doors for other women in the church, and her example continues to inspire generations.
Above all, Betty loved her family deeply. She was a source of wisdom, comfort, and joy-- quick to laugh, quick to listen, and always ready with a word of encouragement. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived it with sincerity, grace, and courage.
She is survived by her beloved son Doug Dixon and special friend Debbie Kelley, daughter in-law Kristy Dixon, precious granddaughter Grace Dixon, loving caregivers who became friends, and an extended family, who will forever carry her love in their hearts. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Doe Jennings, her husband Gordon Dixon, and her oldest son Robert Dixon, with whom she is now joyfully reunited in the presence of the Lord.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Elizabeth Baptist Church at 3pm, where friends and loved ones will gather one hour prior to the service to honor her remarkable journey and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
Though she has stepped into glory, her impact remains--woven into her family, her church, her community, and every life she touched. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elizabeth Baptist Church Music Program.
