Betty Jean Spurlin Bowman, age 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2026, at White Oak Manor in Shelby, North Carolina.

Born in Cleveland County on May 26, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John Spurlin and Lyna Turner Spurlin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Rob Spurlin and Ned Spurlin; her sisters, Agnes Sisk and Doris Spurlin; her husband, Mabry Bowman; her sons, Randy Bowman and Terry Bowman; and her grandson, Shane Bowman.

Affectionately known as "MawMaw," Betty was a devoted and active member of New Bethel Church in Shelby, where she especially cherished her Sunday School class. She loved attending church gatherings, particularly enjoying the fellowship shared around church meals with the people and family she loved so deeply.

Betty will be remembered for her big heart and her faithful witness as she openly shared her love for Jesus.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Scott Bowman (Sheila) and Mark Bowman; her daughter-in-law, Sheree Bowman; her sister, Jenny Cole; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Tammy Kiser and Bella Smith; the Kidney Dialysis Clinic of Boiling Springs, North Carolina, for over ten years of compassionate care; and the staff of White Oak Manor of Shelby for their exceptional care and kindness.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026, at New Bethel Church in Shelby, with Rev. Mark Patchett officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to New Bethel Church or to DCI of Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
