Betty Lanning Floyd

Blacksburg - Betty Lanning Floyd, 89, of Blacksburg, SC, passed away peacefully on January 26th, 2026 at her home.
She was born in Blacksburg to the late Clyde William Lanning and Ruth Amanda Moore Lanning.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her children, Lisa Renee Floyd and Joel Millage Floyd as well as her brothers, Grady Lanning, James Lanning, Harry Lanning, Doyle Lanning and her sister, Bertie Dover.
Betty is survived by M.D. Floyd, her loving spouse of 69 wonderful years. She is also survived by her siblings, Sondra Anderson and Earl (Linda) Lanning, as well as her children Randy (Ashley) Floyd, Scott Floyd, and Stuart (Heather) Floyd. In addition, Betty is survived by her thirteen grandchildren, Nathan, Shaunna, Christopher, Kelly, Tymber, Savannah, Morgan, Caleb, Jordan, Lauren, Kristen, Daryl-Brooke and James. Betty also had many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Betty was a faithful servant of the Lord, and a beloved presence in the small town she proudly called home. An evangelical Christian throughout her life, she walked humbly with God and lived out her faith daily through love, kindness, and service to others. Her life was a quiet but powerful testimony of devotion, integrity, and grace.
A dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, she found her greatest joy in her family. She nurtured generations with wisdom, prayer, and unwavering encouragement, always pointing them toward faith and compassion. Her home was a place of welcome, warmth, and steadfast love, and her influence will be felt for years to come.
She devoted many years to teaching school, shaping young minds with patience and care, and she served faithfully in her church in countless ways. Known and respected throughout her community, she was deeply loved by relatives, friends, neighbors, former students, and fellow church members alike. In a town where everyone knew her name, she was admired for her gentle spirit, strong faith, and servant's heart.
A 1954 graduate of Blacksburg High School, Betty was President of her senior class, a cheerleader, and was on the debate team, with which she traveled to New York to compete.
She leaves behind a rich legacy of faith, family, and faithful service. Though she will be dearly missed, those who loved her rejoice in knowing she has been welcomed home, hearing the words she lived for: "Well done, good and faithful servant."
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 29th, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary, 400 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30th, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Buffalo Baptist Church, 618 Buffalo Church Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702 with Rev. Harold Johnson and Rev. Bruce Price officiating. . Interment will follow immediately after at Frederick Memorial Gardens in Gaffney, SC. Caleb Floyd, Nathan Walker, RiLee Martin, Talon Martin, Josh Irwin, Josh Batchlor, Carl Buckner, and Derrick Smith will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church Life Center Fund, 618 Buffalo Church Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702.
