Carl Herbert Poole
Carl Herbert Poole of Casar passed away, Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at his residence.
Born October 18, 1928 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late John David Poole and Minnie Rosetta Earl Poole. He was owner and operator of Poole's Metal Shop specializing in sheet metal formation.
Carl was a former director of Lawndale Troop of Boy Scouts of America, a longtime member of Lawndale Masonic Lodge #486, a former member of the Scottish Rite and Oasis Shriner. He was a member and former Sunday School Teacher at the First United Methodist Church in Lawndale. He served in the Army during WWII and was active during the Berlin Airlift. Carl was a member and past commander of Upper Cleveland American Legion and former director of Upper Cleveland Rescue in its early stages.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Faye Poole and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Rose Hedrick Poole; a son, Kenneth Poole of Lawndale; two daughters, Jennie Thrift and husband, Bill of Shelby and Connie Lord and husband, Eddy of Ellenboro; a brother, Johnnie Lee Poole of Dallas; two sisters, Thelma Porter of Shelby and Mary Lou McCombs of Casar; four grandchildren, April Lynn Thrift Lee; Johnny Dean Poole and wife, Angie Towery Poole; Vickie Poole DuJardin and husband, Donald and Patty Poole; four great grandchildren, Matthew Poole, Emily Poole, Christopher Brown and Chloe Ann Marie Brown and two step great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Carl Poole.
A funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Thursday at First United Methodist Church-Lawndale with Rev. Roger Sailors and Rev. Keith Sherrill officiating. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service.
Burial will be private.
