Munchkin Melodies

Do you remember your favorite songs when you were little?

Maybe it was a nursery rhyme about an animal, or about the direction of the wheels of the bus. I think my favorite song was The Token’s “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” It painted such vivid a picture in my mind’s eye with the “peaceful lions” and “Wimoweh’s.” I also loved the “Banana Boat Song” by Harry Belafonte. There is something magical in those first few seconds of “Day-o. Day-a-a-o. Daylight come and we want to go home.” And don’t even get me started on soundtracks…

Despite the meanings of the songs that the composer intended to portray, a child could take the music and make it meaningful and relevant in their own life. I could also learn most words to those songs, which gave me some ownership when the song came on the radio. As I got older, my musical tastes have unfolded and faded through many different styles. To this day, I still get the feelings of joy and happiness when I hear those songs.

Easter is right around the corner; spring is at our heels; this is a time to re-evaluate the past months and realize the urgency of our future plans for the rest of the year. Friends, I encourage you to remember the things that are positive in your life. Think about the times you have felt the best. Tap into the energy that gives you the strength to go on. Create meaningful memories with the people around you. By unlocking the thoughts that make you feel good, you will reflect a light that others can be guided toward. Music is the key. Music is the nucleus that can connect us all. If we spread positive energy to each other, it will multiply tenfold.

Don’t wait on other people to make your day or expect life to just unfold to your expectations. Invest your time in building up others and it will be rewarding beyond your understanding.
