Carolyn Ann Tessneer Queen
Carolyn Ann Tessneer Queen, 78, of Shelby, passed away on December 2, 2024 at Peak Resources in Cherryville, NC. Carolyn was born on February 5, 1946 to the late Jim and Mabel Barnett Tessneer in Cleveland County, NC. She graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1964. After high school, she earned a degree in data processing from Gardner-Webb College. Carolyn worked at Porter Brothers in Shelby before taking a job in 1975 at Cleveland Community College. In 1995, Carolyn decided to become a small business owner and purchased a flower shop that she would later name Anna Rose Floral. Carolyn always enjoyed decorating her home and was very talented with such hobbies as quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Carolyn was very proud of her upbringing on her family's dairy farm where she learned the value of hard work. She was a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, where she met and married Floyd in 1965. Church was always an essential part of her life, where she enjoyed serving on various committees, traveling on mission trips, singing in the Sanctuary Choir, and being a member of the Craft Ladies. Carolyn also supported Floyd through the Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary, spreading the Word of God across the globe. Carolyn was most proud of her family. She had three boys, Robert, Jeff, and Jimmy, who were the center of her world. Carolyn loved to cook for her family and looked forward to seeing them on Sunday afternoons for lunch. Many family and community members (especially the Gastonia firefighters) looked forward to her famous red velvet cakes at Christmas. It was common for her home to smell like a freshly baked cake or homemade bread as she was an excellent cook. She was incredibly proud of her four grandchildren and always made it a point to attend their church programs, sporting events, and school activities. GC, or G, as she was called by the grandkids, made her home a special place to have dress-up parties, cooking lessons, Lego play, or fort building. Years later, she also enjoyed seeing and holding her three great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Dwight Tessneer, whom she adored, and sister-in-law Joanne Tessneer. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 59 years, Floyd Queen, Jr. and her sons Robert (Connie), Jeff (Amber), and Jimmy (Leslie), all of Shelby. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rachel Hogston (Austin), Jared Queen (Brooklyn), Adam Queen, and Caleb Queen, along with her great-grandchildren Hadley Hogston, Brady Queen, and Caroline Hogston, all of Shelby. She leaves behind her brother's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 in the Family Life Center of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Dr. James B. Richardson and Pastor Aaron Hinton officiating. Burial will be immediately following the funeral in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church Craft Ladies, 1106 Poplar Springs Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152, or Gideons International PO Box 140800 Nashville, TN 37214-0800.
