Carolyn Emory Spurling, 78, of Shelby, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at the Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.

Carolyn was born in Cleveland County on August 29, 1947, and was a daughter of the late Dewitt and Ruby Hayes Emory. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Carolyn was an exceptional grandmother to all her nieces and nephews. She was supportive in all their sports activities and babysat with them all at younger ages. She made many friends at hospice and loved each and everyone of them. She loved it there and love her new home.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-two years, Harold Calvin Spurling; two brothers-in-law, Ronnie Leonhart and Charles Leonard; and a sister-in-law, Letitia Emory.

She is survived by her two brothers Steve Emory of Shelby and Ricky Emory of Kings Mountain; four sisters, Betty Leonhart of Kings Mountain; Linda Wiggins and husband Larry of Shelby; Sandra Leonard of Shelby; Tammy Cogdell and husband Michael of Shelby; brother-in-law, Ray Spurling and wife Wilma of Shelby; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 PM in the Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Barry Goodman, Mason Leonard and Johnny Owens officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fallston, NC.
