Charles E. Childress, Sr.
   Charles E. Childress, Sr., age 74, of Old Henrietta Road, Forest City, NC, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital in Spartanburg, SC.
     Charles was born October 16, 1938 at Six Mile, SC to the late Frank Bruce Childress and Flora Bennett Childress.  He was a veteran of the US Army and worked as a butcher for Wells-Jenkins & Wells Meat Market for over three decades before his retirement. He was a faithful member of High Shoal Baptist Church and served as a deacon, Sunday School Director and was involved with the prison ministry.  He also led the choir at Shingle Hollow Church.  He enjoyed fishing, travelling, and singing and was a loving husband and father.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death two sisters, Margaret Franklin, Emma Pittman and step-mother, Eva Lou Morrow Childress.
     Survivors include his wife, Bertha Louise Childress; one son, Charles Childress, Jr. and wife, Melissa of Hendersonville, NC; two daughters, Tracie Smith and husband, Chuck and Janice Plemmons and husband, Mike all of Swannanoa, NC; two step-sons, Richard Waddle of Forest City and Virgil Wall and wife, April of Apex, NC; three step-daughters, Richie Mauldin of Simpsonville, SC, Vicky Waddle of Spartanburg, Sheila Michelsen and husband, Fred of Maryland; one brother, Frank Childress of Liberty, SC; three sisters, Helen Gatch of Columbia, SC, Earline Sublette of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Vangie Hollifield of Marion, NC.  He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Eugene Passmore and Reverend Lanny J. Funchess officiating.  Interment will follow in High Shoal Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
