Charles Everett Hamilton IV

Charles Everett Hamilton IV

Charles Everett Hamilton IV, known to many who loved him simply as "Chuck", passed from this world to be with his Heavenly Father on February 14th, 2026.

Chuck lived a wonderful life filled with laughter, generosity, and the kind of warmth that made every room feel a little brighter. A graduate of Kings Mountain High School (1987) and Appalachian State University (1991), he went on to build a distinguished career at IBM, where he spent over twenty-five years and finished his career as a Principal Storage Portfolio Seller.

Chuck was so much more than his résumé. He was the man behind the epic App State tailgates, the one you wanted at the grill, and the first person to make you laugh when you needed it most. His booming voice and mischievous smile had a way of bringing the fun to any gathering, and his spirit of generosity quietly touched more lives than he probably ever knew.

A man of great faith, some of his most treasured memories were rooted in the mountains of Montreat, North Carolina, where he spent summers as a boy with his beloved grandmother, Mama Lou - days that shaped his heart and never left him.

An avid golfer with a handicap of 7 (ish), Chuck was a proud member of both Cleveland Country Club and Kings Mountain Country Club. He was fortunate to play courses around the world, though Pebble Beach and the rolling greens of Ireland held a special place in his heart.

Chuck gave deeply of his time and talents to his community. He served on the Dover Foundation Board and the Shelby City Park Board ("Friends of the Park"), and spent many meaningful years coaching youth basketball and baseball, shaping young lives with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything he did.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles "Charlie" Hamilton III. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dana White Hamilton; his daughter, Natalie Hamilton Hurley, her husband Michael, and his eagerly awaited grandchild, Clara Elizabeth Hurley; his son, Benjamin Owen Hamilton, and his fiancée Leah Eimer; his stepson, Guy Scoggin; his mother, Marilyn Hamilton Herndon; the mother of his children, Amy Minnix Goforth; his brother, Wayne Hamilton, and his wife Leigh, and nephew Nathan; his sister, Virginia Hamilton Tuminello, and her husband "Cajun Wayne," and nephew Andrew; and his beloved Springer Spaniel and faithful companion, Appy.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory.

A memorial service honoring Chuck's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Central United Methodist Church, with Pastor David Lee officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to The American Diabetes association: https://diabetes.org

Chuck leaves behind echoes of his infectious laughter, a life lived fully and on his own terms, and memories that will carry his spirit forward in everyone he loved. He will be desperately and exceedingly missed.
