Charles Ray Canipe, 82, passed away on October 15, 2026, at TerraBella in Shelby, NC. Born in Cleveland County, NC, on November 16, 1943, he was the son of the late Edley Martin Canipe and Ollie Daphine McNeilly Canipe.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his son, Barry Canipe; his daughter, Christine Canipe Appleman and her husband, Ronnie; his brother, Wendell Canipe and his wife, Vickie; and his brother-in-law, Joe Mauney.

Charles is survived by his wife, Gail Brooks Canipe; his son, Timothy Charles Canipe (Glenda); his daughter, Nina Topper (Brian); and his grandchildren, Leslie Lynch (Todd), Charlie, Jacob, Kayley, Brittany, Austin, Abby, Landon, Autumn (Eli), Christopher (Pam), Jeremiah Appleman, and Allen Appleman (Holly). He is also survived by his brother, Mitchell Canipe (Gail); his sister, Helen Mauney; and his 23 great-grandchildren.

Charles was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for Troop 112 in Lawndale, NC, enjoyed Burns High School football, and was a lifelong fan of UNC Chapel Hill basketball. Charles also was a very persistent hard-working Individual, whom dedicated 42 Years of his craftsmanship to PPG Industries as a Combustion Analyst.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 23, 2026, in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory, with Reverend Richard Stroup officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Burns High Booster Club, TerraBella of Shelby, or VIA Health Partners.
