Blacksburg - Charlie Grant Varner, 82, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, NC.

Born in Blacksburg, he was the husband of Judy Allison Varner and the son of the late Frank and Inez West Varner. He was retired from Hamrick Mills and was a member of Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Charlie is survived by his brother, Wilburn Varner of Blacksburg; three step-children, James R. Thomas, Jr. (Vickie) of Spartanburg, Allison T. Herndon of Blacksburg, and John R. Thomas of Blacksburg; 6 grandchildren, Jessica Connolly (Shawn) of Tamassee, SC, Jennifer Reed (Brian) of Gaffney, Ashley H. Greer of Gaffney, Wesley Herndon (Megan), Stacy Reed of Gaffney, and James R. Thomas III (Katie) of Landrum; 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eleven brothers and two sisters.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 4th, 2026 from 12:00-2:00 pm at Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the church with Rev. Michael Owen and Rev. Richard Brown officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Brian Medley, Conner Medley, Ethan Greer, Christian Reed, David Faulkner, and Cameron Fowler will serve as pallbearers.
