City OF KM Celebrates “Fabulous 4th”
Thursday, June 24, 2010 12:14 pm Over a half dozen Revolutionary War regiments will participate with musket and cannon demonstrations, a children’s militia muster and games and everyone is invited to sign the Declaration of Independence. Colonial craft making skills will be shared throughout the encampment. And, for those wishing to learn more about Revolutionary War combat techniques, there will be a bayonet training demonstration and opportunities to talk to all the re-enactment groups. At 6:00, Continental Divide will perform at the main stage with a concert of “rip roarin’ rhythm & blues”. Beginning at 9:00 pm, there will be a patriotic opening ceremony with a parade led by the Loch Norman Pipe Band. Following the program, cannon nightfire will signal a mock battle re-enactment between the British and the various patriot militias led by Mayor Rick Murphrey. A victory signal flare will start the “Fabulous 4th” Fireworks show, sponsored by the Kings Mountain Tourism Development Authority. The event is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket or chairs to sit on and enjoy the music and fireworks.
