Classical Academy Student Wins Essay Contest
Eleventh grade students were invited to write about a quote from Thomas Jefferson, “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those willing to work and give it to those who would not. It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes.” At a Shelby Lions meeting in October, Lion Gerald Weathers presented Taylor with a plaque and a check for fifty dollars. Her winning essay advanced to district Competition. Heather and her parents, Holly and Dan Sweat of Boiling Springs, traveled to a district cabinet meeting in Asheville in November, where she read her essay and received another cash prize. She is invited to read her essay at the Celebrate Liberty seminar during the Lions State Convention at Mariott Executive Park in Charlotte Saturday, May 19th, where she will receive her award.
