Constitution Day Essay Awards
Throughout Cleveland County all tenth grade high school students were given a booklet on the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Then, an essay contest on the subject was offered to the students. First place winners at each high school were given a $50 check and the overall winner was presented with $250. The winners were Johnny Cromer of Cleveland Early College High School, Sheridan Redding of Shelby High School, Nathan Hodges of Burns High School, Katie Bieker of Kings Mountain High School, and Caitlin Smith of Crest High School. Winners were announced and presented with the checks in assembly at each school. Dr. Troy Kickler, a Constitution specialist from North Carolina State University, spoke at all five schools.
