Dayton Ledford, age 67, of Whitesides Road, Rutherfordton, NC, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at his residence.

     Dayton was born October 8, 1945 in Carter County, TN to the late Homer Wade Ledford and Opal Cole Ledford.  Dayton was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, class of 1964 and a 2001 graduate of Isothermal Community College. He worked for Stonecutter Mill for 35 years before his retirement and was a faithful member of Main Street Baptist Church.  He enjoyed woodworking, bee keeping and gardening.

      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William Jonathan Payne.

     Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Brenda Kay Ledford; three daughters, Sandra Roberts of Bedford, N.H., Vikki Kay Whiteside and husband, Glen of Rutherfordton and Rhonda Kay Collins and husband, Wayne of Kittrell, NC; one brother, Wade Ledford and wife, Shirley of Elizabethton, TN; four sisters, Rose Ledford, Mary Lee Williams and husband, Garfield, Sue Combs, Ruth Elliott and husband, Mack all of Elizabethton.  He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

      Funeral services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Main Street Baptist Church with Reverend Rick Brewer officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until service time in the church sanctuary. A private interment will take place in the Ledford Family Cemetery.
