Dewie Ulease Gordon


Mr. Dewie Ulease Gordon, age 93 of Shelby, NC, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Kings Mountain Hospice House.  Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Cleveland Funeral Services and Crematory Chapel conducted by Rev. Allen D. Davis.  A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home or at other times at Ricky’s House.  Burial will follow at Patterson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Shelby.

   He is survived by two daughters, Susan Lovelace and husband Roy of Grover, NC, and Ruth Hathcock and husband Eddie of Midland, NC, four sons, Ricky Gordon and wife Becky of Earl, NC, David Gordon and wife Kim of Grover, NC, Doug Gordon and wife Robyn of Waxhaw, NC, and Billy Gordon of Mt. Holly, NC, ten grandchildren, Robby Taylor of Charlotte, NC, Angie McGee and husband Doug of Midland, NC, Jeff Taylor and wife Phoebe of Mint Hill, NC, Elizabeth Cook and husband Matthew of Shelby, NC, Dillon Gordon of Earl, NC, Laurel Gordon of Grover, NC, Enoch Gordon of Grover, NC, Kiley Lovelace of Grover, NC, Mike Hoffman of Statesville, NC, and Dana Gordon of Mt. Holly, NC, seven great grandchildren, Sam Taylor, Kenlie McGee, Sophie Taylor, Lacie McGee, William Taylor, Macey Cook, and Gunner Cook.

Born December 13, 1920 in Union Co., NC, Mr. Gordon was the son of the late William and Nina (McCorkle) Gordon and was preceded in death by his wife Jeannette (Ridings) Gordon, a daughter, Dixie Hoffman, a son, Gene Gordon, a step-son, Freddie Melton, three brothers, Manlis Gordon, Theron Gordon, and Clarence Gordon, and two sisters, Evra Godfrey and Grace Wolfe. Dewie retired from Basic Electric serving more than 20 years as a lineman. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling around the United States, but what he loved the most was spending time with his family and friends.  Every Sunday he would go and spend time with various family members and friends that were in need.  Dewie had a story for every occasion and loved to share it with those that would listen.

   Pallbearers will be Matthew Cook, Jeff Taylor, Doug McGee, Dillon Gordon, Roy Lovelace, and Sam Taylor.

   The family would like to express a sincere thanks to staff of the Cleveland County Hospice House.
