Distinguished Women Awardees to be honored

Carol Ann Hoard, area minister and one half of the duo known as The Christmas Tree Ladies who spread joy and goodwill throughout every holiday season. Lisa Proctor, first-ever female chief of the Kings Mountain Police who is also a Christian writer, competitive horseback rider, and cancer survivor. Terricia (Teresa) Wingo who is known as the "Trunk Lady" throughout Cleveland County because she gives food and clothing - including the shoes off her feet - to the needy.

What do these amazing women have in common? They are the three recipients of the 2021 Distinguished Women Awards from the Cleveland County Commission for Women (CCCW). And they will all be honored at a banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the LeGrand Center, 1800 E. Marion St, Shelby.

"The Commission solicited nominations from the community, and, after reviewing the numerous applications that were submitted, the group selected these three, very special, women," says Betsy Wells, CCCW 2021 publicity chair.

"Since 1992 the CCCW has been honoring local women who contribute to our community in unique and magnificent ways," says Wells. "It is really remarkable how many amazing women we have in our county."

Tickets for the banquet are $40 and may be purchased at the Cleveland County Arts Council on the Courthouse Square in Shelby during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday until Friday, Aug. 20. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.EventBrite. com by searching for "Distinguished Women Banquet Tickets."

"Tickets will not be available at the door, and we will not be taking money there," says Wells. "We ask that participants purchase their tickets before August 20 online or at the Arts Council."
