Donald Burlon Craig
Donald Burlon Craig, 70, of Bostic, NC, died peacefully on November 10, 2015, where he was being visited and comforted by many friends and family at Hospice in Rutherford County after a battle with bone cancer.
Born June 2, 1945, in Wilkes County to the late Burlon Bart Craig and Irene Elizabeth Lindsay Craig. Donald spent most of this life on the Catawba Lincoln County line where he learned to make pottery from his father Burlon Craig. Donald helped to carry on the 200 year old tradition of pottery making in the Catawba Valley area. Surrounded by the pottery tradition all of his life, he established his own pottery in Rutherford County in 1991. Donald created pieces using local clays and shapes including face jugs and snake jugs. Donald was a talented potter and has work in the collection of the Mint Museum. He served in the US Army during Vietnam where he received a Purple Heart Medal.
Donald was beloved by a great number of friends from all fields of his life.
He was devoted father to his two children, Johnny Bart Craig and Dwayne Ervin Craig both of Lincoln County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Lester Craig.
Visitation: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at StameyTysinger Funeral Home, Fallston, NC
The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 16, 2015, at Stamey Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with Bert Sigmon officiating.
Burial will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
