Mrs. Doris Chesney "Maw" Shirley, 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at her residence with her family by her side.

Doris was born on July 30, 1954 in Gaston County, NC a daughter of the late Jack Calvin Chesney and Gladys "Lena" Riddle Chesney. She worked in textiles and retired as a bookkeeper for Goodwill Publishers in Gastonia. Doris was an active and faithful member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. She had a love for reading her Bible and loved flowers.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Dexter Shirley of the home; two sons, Scott Shirley and wife Carly of Bessemer City; Ronald Hammonds and wife Sandy of Gastonia; four grandchildren, Ragan and Camryn Shirley; Corey Hammonds (Aislinn) and Dustin Hammonds (Leilani); two sisters, Sheila Chesney, Pat Stamey; two brothers, Terry Chesney and Rickey Chesney all of Gastonia; two great grandchildren, Ander and Wylla Hammonds. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Toby.

The family will receive friends from 12:30PM to 1:45PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church in Bessemer City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Austin and Fain Farmer officiating.

Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
